As bored as I might be now, I know soon I’ll be unpleasantly busy.

When given a lot of time and a short to-do list, I’ve found I only accomplish one thing a day. For example, I had on my list to get my haircut, to do some shopping, and to take out the trash. I’ve found that once I realized I had enough days to do only one responsible thing each day I can’t manage to do any more than one responsible thing. Each day starts with a mental review of the tasks yet to be accomplished and then I pick one. Yesterday, I couldn’t take out the trash or go to the store because I Had A Meeting. From 1 p.m. until approximately 2 p.m. How do people with full-time jobs ever get anything done?

In other news, I’ve sunk to a new organizational low. I alphabetized a couple shelves of books. And not only did I alphabetize them, but I first sorted them into fiction and non-fiction. I also ironed anything that could possibly be ironed and organized my clothes. Dress clothes on the left, everything else on the right. On the right, sorting occurred from heaviest to lightest (sweatshirts, then long sleeved shirts, then short sleeved shirts, then tanks) and then by color within the larger categories. I should note, though, that the book sorting and clothing sorting did not occur in the same day.

Someone, please tell me something interesting. Please :o )

I’ve never been this clean or organized.

Which can be directly attributed to the fact that I know no one in Columbus. Yesterday, as I somewhat tearfully lamented to Lisa, I talked to two people: her and the guy who made my student id at the student id office. I also waved to a construction guy, but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t constitute talking. I have definitely stooped to singing along to songs and occasionally talking to the T.V. and can see that what is clearly next is a full-blown conversation with myself. So, hopefully there will be someone to have a conversation with today!!

On the other hand, all this wandering about my apartment has ended up with it looking quite put together. So, because I know you’re dying to see, here are some pictures of my new home!!

Organization is not my strength

July 26, 2007 at 6:05 pm (organization)

I can hit a mean low corner shot in racquetball. I can brainstorm solutions to problems. I can read and write and I can probably still play the flute, although I was never very good.

I cannot organize stuff. Okay, to be really very honest, I can probably organize stuff but I hate it. And right now, I have stuff that needs to be organized! I have all these pieces of paper–five years of teaching college comp stuff, and something desperately sad like NINE, yes, NINE years of student stuff (I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I’ve been a student since 1998, though I have managed to earn three degrees). I have all these file cabinets full of pieces of paper that aren’t particularly important, I don’t really think, but I loathe the idea of really going through them. Do you know that when I graduate with my Phd, assuming I manage to accomplish that task, I’ll probably have been going to school for thirteen or fourteen years after graduating from high school. That makes me feel a bit ridiculous!

Wow that was a bit of a tangent. In any case, how in the world should I organize all this stuff?
